Meet Jessica

Jessica Bichler is a mom, small business owner, and longtime Wilmington resident running for the North Carolina Senate to fight for strong public schools, responsible development, clean water and air, and an economy that works for working families. Jessica has called Wilmington home for 15 years. During that time, she’s experienced firsthand the challenges facing North Carolina communities. She’s stepping up to protect the place she calls home by fighting for smart policy that lowers the cost of living, raises wages, and makes it easier for families to succeed.

With an education in communications and anthropology, Jessica began her career in the film industry and understands firsthand how state policy impacts local industries. Now, she owns a small business, a yoga studio in Wilmington, where she serves people from all backgrounds and gives back to the community. She understands the economic pressures facing small businesses across the state, and how devastating rising costs and economic downturns can be to local economies.

Jessica also sees how health is shaped by political decisions made in Raleigh. Like many New Hanover residents, Jessica had no idea that she was drinking water contaminated by PFAS for years. Her son was born prematurely at just three pounds, the day before news of the contamination broke to the public. As a young adult dealing with asthma, she fought for restrictions on factory emissions that were damaging air quality in her home state. Today, she continues to fight for corporations to be held responsible for the damage they do to communities, and to protect families from shouldering the cost of problems they didn’t create.  

 

Jessica’s parents and grandparents instilled in her the responsibility to work for a healthy democracy through their roles in the military and their service as engaged and compassionate citizens. She is keenly aware that the challenges we face today, such as political interference in our classrooms and gerrymandering that silences voters are echoes of the struggles her family has pushed back against for generations. 

 

Jessica and her husband live in a multigenerational household in the middle of New Hanover County.  They raise their eight-year-old son and teen daughter in close proximity to grandparents and aunts, and recognize that we all have something valuable to contribute to this world.  They enjoy everything New Hanover County has to offer, but know we need a State Senator who relates to the challenges faced by families like theirs across the district. Jessica believes New Hanover County residents deserve the benefits of their hard work and tax dollars. Jessica wants New Hanover County to be a healthy, safe, and affordable place where families can thrive for generations, and she’s ready to bring practical, community-driven leadership to Raleigh to make it happen.
